Africa: Africa Weather Forecast launched its weekly summary (24 April – 30 April 2023); as per African weather reports, there is a cold front season, and temperatures are expected to drop to uncomfortable lows in the mornings due to the influence of two cold fronts. Although no snowfall is anticipated during the last week of April, the cold fronts will likely bring chilly conditions, making for cooler days across the affected areas.

It is cloudy, cold, windy, and wet in the west and central interior as this week’s first cold front batters the country. Going as far north as Namibia and Botswana and with the help of the continental trough, the front delivers a high chance of light showers and thundershowers in places over the Cape interior and central parts today (Monday).

Although partly cloudy conditions are anticipated in places across the country on Tuesday, the chance of light rainfall remaining along the south and east coasts is medium but low and accompanied by light rainfall in places over the central provinces.

By Wednesday, the first cold front will have passed, allowing the high-pressure cell to take over the central and eastern regions resulting in morning fog patches in the Lowveld and dominant clear skies elsewhere. This passing also allows much cooler morning temperatures and instances of frost in valleys, high-lying areas and wide-open spaces across the interior. Medium chance of strong NW winds gusting at 40km/h over the southern and central Northern Cape.

The cold front is expected to arrive in the west on Thursday (Freedom Day), with two precipitation bands. One over the central interior accompanied by scattered showers and thundershowers and the second in the far southwest with light rainfall and very isolated thunderstorms. Strong winds reaching 40-50km/h are also expected over a larger part of the Cape interior.

Friday and the rest of the weekend will most likely see the cold front shifting east into the central and eastern parts, resulting in scattered showers and thundershowers in the south and central regions on Friday but over the eastern provinces on Saturday. This means a larger portion of the weekend will most likely be partly cloudy in the east, with light rainfall that shifts towards the far east on Sunday as it dissipates.
