Cape Town: The Biggest concert of the city ‘Festive Lights Switch-On’ was finally observed on the night of Dec 01. Surprisingly the annual free entertainment concert is experienced on the Grand parade and welcomed over 80,000 visitors.
This year in 2024, the annual event celebrated it 55th edition and kicked off with a festive season which was completely filled with rocking music and dance performances. The major highlight was the ‘People of Hope’ where iconic artists performed on stage and entertained everyone.
The fest had lights and fun for all ages. Festive Lights Switch-On is special because it unites people of all cultures, backgrounds and ages from across the city and beyond. There is no better example of the sense of community for City of Cape Town that the latest happened concert.
City of Cape Town welcomed summer in spectacular fashion, and organised its largest outdoor free entertainment concert at both the fests, with the line-up of the performers to follow in the weeks to come.
Moreover, this doesn’t end here. The Festive Lights Switch-On will entertain Cape Town for this whole week. The event reflects the forward-looking ethos of Cape Town and embraces its rich diversity. The 2024 edition of the festival promises an unforgettable experience filled with entertainment, music, dance, laughter and joy.
Considering this, the City of Cape Town expressed their gratitude towards the visitors and residents. They said, “Thank you to the thousands of residents who came out to celebrate the switching on of the festive lights event last night! Thank you for being part of the City of Hope!”
“The festive season is officially here. For those who couldn’t attend the concert, please come and enjoy the Adderley Street lights over the holiday period,” added the City of Cape Town officials.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Events and Film Department – Alderman JP Smith also acknowledged the concert and presented his views. He expressed, “What a night! We did it Cape Town.”
“Another year, we made it through and the festive season is now here. We finally made it through together, not by individual efforts but because we came together. We stayed together and we helped each other through,” said JP Smith.
Smith extended his gratitude and added, “So tonight, we say ‘thank you’. This concert was filled with a line-up of great entertainment. I just want to say thank you to all our residents, for making the city best place in South Africa. The best place in the world!”
He confirmed further that more than 80,000 or 110,000 residents came from across the city, from all over to celebrate along with them.
Alderman Smith also shared photographs and video link of the entertainment filled and exciting light show that was projected at the City Hall.
