Cape Town: The firefighters of City of Cape Town found a body in the Kuilsriver area. The dead body is assumed to be that of a person who fell into the Highbury canal during inclement weather on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
South African Police Service (SAPS) was also alerted to lead the recovery after the body was found by the firefighters of the city’s Kuilsriver Fire Station.
Reportedly, the city availed its Fire and Rescue swift water rescue team, since the incident happened. It also availed the Law Enforcement Marine and Environmental Unit and the use of a drone.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that their thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims, as they wait for confirmation from SAPS.
Smith further said that he wants to thank everyone who is involved in the four-day search. It was the second incident happened this week in the city, during the time when Cape Town was grappling with the impacts of severe weather.
As per the sources, this weekend, a man drowned after the vehicle he was driving became submerged in a wetland along Spine Road extension. The waterways remain at capacity and this situation will likely be still for a while. They want to caution the public to stay incredibly careful at all times.
Notably, the enforcement operations were conducted over the past week, and the city agencies arrested 245 suspects and issued 41,698 fines. The Metro Police officers arrested 43 suspects and issued 3,470 traffic and by-law fines.
SAPS Officers on Saturday, July 21, 2024 arrested a suspect for illegal possession of drugs in Wynberg, after a tip off about drugs was sold from a vehicle which was parked on the corners of Park and Kent Roads.
Also, the officers recovered 40 whole mandrax tablets as well as 67 sachets of tik with an estimated street value of R8,300. The suspect aged 54 was arrested and detained at Wynberg SAPS for further investigation.
