Cape Town is all set to host Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony 

The Earthshot Prize was founded by Prince William in the year 2020 and has become a powerful global search engine for unearthing the most innovative climate and environmental solutions of the world.

Cape Town: For the first time in African Continent City of Cape Town is all set to host the prestigious Earthshot Week, that will begin on Monday, November 04, 2024. The Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 06, 2024 and the city is ready to attend it with the Prince of Wales. 

The Earthshot Prize was founded by Prince William in the year 2020 and has become a powerful global search engine for unearthing the most innovative climate and environmental solutions of the world.  

This is for the first time that the Earthshot Prize annual celebration will be held in South Africa. Previously it was held in Singapore in 2023, Boston in 2022 and London in 2021. 

Reportedly, the Earthshot Week will convene the international and community leaders, entrepreneurs, environmental experts, young people and the current and previous Earthshot Finalists for a series of thought leadership events, considering the networking and mentorship opportunities and high-level dialogues on critical solutions to repair and restore the planet. 

The awards ceremony will feature various events such as Earthshot+, in which a day will be dedicated to thought-provoking conversations on November 05, 2024, including the Earthshot Prize Finalists and the Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony on November 06, 2024. 

Considering this big event, Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said that Cape Town is all set for an historic first Earthshot Week on African soil. He confirmed that they are looking forward to welcome the Prince of Wales to Cape Town for this prestigious global prize-giving ceremony. 

Lewis further mentioned that the city feels a great resonance with the objectives of Earthshot. For which Cape Town is making an SA-record R120 billion infrastructure investment over ten years, with full 40% of the project portfolio focusing on climate change interventions. 

The project includes new sources of water supply which is a major transition to green energy, cutting-edge wastewater treatment technology and much more. 

Mayor Lewis also expressed that they are excited to join the insightful discussions that will take place throughout the week on solutions to the major environmental issues of the time. 

The Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony will be an evening of extraordinary storytelling and star-studded performances. It will be hosted by Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner Billy Porter and TV presenter Bonang Matheba. The Awards will also feature some of the world’s popular musicians, artists, athletes and advocates.
