Chipata: Vubwi District Politician Maurice Banda-Vubwi thanked the Vubwi government for listening to the voices of the locals as road construction started.

Maurice Banda-Vubwi stated, “Thanks so much, Bally, for listening to the cry and the voices of the Vubwi People.”

Once this road is completed, it will not only open more economic opportunities but it will also attract more Investments for both the local people and international community, added Banda-Vubwi.

He also shared his experience on behalf of the Vubwi people in which he said, “As a people of Vubwi District, we had a challenge to realize development since Independence in 1964, and the living standards of the people remained static as a result, the communities suffered from absolute poverty because, as the people, our major activities in here we rely on Agricultural activities, and due to lack of road infrastructure, our produce had no market and therefore leaving the people of Vubwi vulnerable.”

He again thanked President HH and the New Dawn Government for having listened to us in just two years in government, and we are more expectant to see and receive more of such Capital Projects, so we are also able to contribute to the GDPs and GNPs as we take part to grow of our economy and bettering our lives.

The Social Development services were unattainable here due to the lack of this road, which connects us to the rest of our country, including our neighbouring countries, including Malawi and Mozambique. The politician said that trade was closed for us due to the same lack of roads.

Our Regional Office in Eastern Province is mobilizing equipment to undertake spot improvement works on the Chipata to Vubwi Road.

Moreover, the government has released 5.3 million kwacha (Budget) to rehabilitate the Chipata -Vubwi road. This is out of the budgeted 7.6 million kwacha for the 43-kilometre stretch.

Preliminary works have since commenced, including profiling, clearing, and grubbing.
