Botswana: Gaborone City Council has charged a local man for illegally disposing of domestic waste in an open space. The arrest was made by doing routine checks in Block 10 of the Gaborone District. Environmental Health officers came across a pile of domestic waste illegally disposed in an open in Block 10 in the Makoba area.
Officers then went through the garbage, looking for clues as to who the owner might be. Documents at the scene pointed to the culprit who was then traced, located and charged for illegal dumping of waste.
The suspect, who was taken, was further ordered to clean the area before taking such waste to a proper waste disposal site. The administration of Gaborone city has been conducting cleanup exercises in the different areas of the city.
The various organizations of the city, along with the city council participate in the cleanup exercise which is aimed at beautification of the capital city. The Gaborone City Council has been working towards the beautification of the city for more than two months.
The administration, with help from the people of Gaborone have taken up city upkeep, they have helped in the construction of roads, and even helped in the landscaping of the new school in the city.
The Gaborone City Council shared glimpses from the recent session of the city upkeep exercise. The images shared by the office featured the charged individual complying with the officers’ demands and cleaning up the area.
The people of the city have appreciated the officers of the City Council for their initiative.
