Nigerian sensational singer and dancer Korra Obidi was invited at the 2024 Saint Lucia Carnival as a guest celebrity. The famous digital content creator was invited to the carnival along with other renowned influencers.
Originally known as Anita Chukwumfumnaya Obidi, the 1991 born artist Korra Obidi is known for citing her mental health as one of the reasons to quit her marriage.
Reportedly, she married to Dr. Justin Dean in December 2017 and have two children with him. The couple has divorced currently. Her ex-husband demanded for spousal support after the split. At present, she lives in United States.
Obidi is from Igbuzo (also known as Ibusa), located in Delta State, South-South Nigeria. The artist was born into a family of three girls and a boy. Her mother is deceased.
She was brought up in a deeply religious and conservative Igbo Christian family that attended Deeper Christian Life Ministry which made her hide her passion for dancing from her parents while growing up.
Saint Lucia Carnival for the year 2024 was observed from July 01, 2024 to July 17, 2024. The carnival observed the sound of Dennery segment, soca, calypso and steelpan permeating through the streets.
It is an annual event, that has become an organised festival after the World War II. The first recorded celebration occurred in 1947, when a small group of people dressed in ragged clothes and began to beat out rhythms on bottles and pieces of steel as they paraded through Castries.
After that, people soon joined in the impromptu parade which ended at the home of Derek and Roddy Walcott on Chaussee Road.
The 2024 fete was observed from dawn till nightfall with the best in local, regional and international artists. The event showcased the culture that included a full-on parade, with the wit of ole mas, to the colour and splendour of the costumes.
Other than Korra Obidi the Saint Lucian Carnival welcomed the celebrities and influencers such as Nathalie Emmanuel from Game of Thrones; Actress, Musician, Content Creator and Comedienne – Jesse Woo; Soca Artist – Patrice Roberts; Miss Jamaica World 2022 – Shanique Singh and American Singer/ Songwriter – Chloe Bailey for a second consecutive year.
