Mauritius: ADB Group evaluates budget support operation under ERRSP

Mauritius: Representatives of the African Development Bank (ADB) Group are presently in Mauritius to conduct an appraisal of the budget support operation as a follow up to the technical preparation mission under the Economic Recovery and Resilience Support Programme (ERRSP).

In this context, a meeting on the ERRSP aiming to update on agro-industrial development reforms and initiatives, including policy objectives, expected benefits and impacts, was held this morning in Port Louis.

The meeting was chaired by the Senior Chief Executive​​​ of the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Medha Gunputh. The representatives of the ADB, including the Deputy Director General, South and Country Manager for Mauritius, Mr Mbekeani Kennedy; the Acting Manager of the Governance Department, Mr Kalayu Gebre; the Lead Economist, Mr George Kararach; and a team of technical experts and other stakeholders of the Ministry participated in the meeting.

Prior to the technical meeting, the Deputy Director General, South and Country Manager for Mauritius, Mr Mbekeani Kennedy, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Maneesh Gobin.

In a statement, Mr Kennedy said that the meeting with the Minister was very cordial and productive and that discussions focused on several issues related to the agro-industry sector, in particular agro-processing. He spoke of the need for the ADP to intervene so as to further boost the agro-industry sector.

He indicated that issues pertaining to the water sector were also discussed while highlighting the need to develop mechanisms for better water management and to find solutions to address the pressing problem of drought in the country.

The Deputy Director General reiterated the support of the ADP to the Mauritian Government in its future endeavours.

During their visit, the representatives will have technical meetings with stakeholders of several ministries, including the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, and the Ministry of Financial Services and Good Governance, amongst others.
