PM Terrance Drew addresses nation at New Year gala

The prime minster of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Terrance Drew hosted his annual new year’s gala with the members of the federation in attendance

St Kitts: The prime minster of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Terrance Drew hosted his annual new year’s gala with the members of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party in attendance. The prominent members of the St Kitts and Nevis administration were present at the event, which took place on Friday.

The attendants included:

  • The members of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet
  • The Leader of the St Kitts and Nevis opposition, Mark Brantley
  • Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to St Kitts and Nevis, Michael Lin

We were present at the New Year celebration. The Prime Minister shared some glimpses of the event on his social media.

The Prime Minister also had the members of the Canadian Cabinet, including Minister Marci Ien and High Commissioner of Canada to St Kitts and the OECS, Lilian Chatterjee, as the special guests of the gala.

PM Terrance Drew thanked all of his guests for their attendance. The prime minister talked about the relationship between Canada and St Kitts and Nevis in the previous year. He was happy to announce that St Kitts and Nevis was one of the nations which got a partial visa waiver from Canada, which facilitated travel for the people of the country.

In line with this, PM Drew thanked HC Lilian Chatterjee for her efforts to make sure that the relationship between St Kitts and Nevis and Canada remains strong. The prime minister thanked the people of the country for their continued support in the face of the challenges of 2023.

According to Dr Terrance Drew, 2023 was a year of rebuilding,  re-envisioning and restructuring. He claimed that the year 2024 is a year of transformation and growth.

“2024 unveils itself as an opportunity for fresh  beginnings and the realization of our shared dreams for a brighter tomorrow.” Said the prime minister in his address at the New Year’s Gala.

“In our collective journey towards a sustainable island state, your unwavering hope and cooperation have been the driving forces that have propelled us today.” Prime Minister Drew added.

The Prime Minister further talked about the significance of the sustainable island state agenda. “Our unwavering vision for sustainable tomorrow is not just an aspiration.” The Leader of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party said. “It is a commitment to building a resilient nation that prioritizes the well-being of our people.”

The vision of a sustainable island state consists of the following seven pillars:

  • Food Security
  • Green Energy
  • Green Energy Transition
  • Economic Diversification,
  • Sustainable Industries
  • The Creative Economy,
  • COVID-19 Recovery
  • Social Protection

The prime minister said that these serve as a foundation upon which the government is building a prosperous future for the people in our federation.
