St Kitts and Nevis: The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Terrance Drew celebrated the National Heroes Day with his colleagues at the Right Excellent Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw Memorial Park. They paid a  heartfelt tribute to the national heroes of St Kitts and Nevis.

The National Heroes Day, which coincides with the birth anniversary of the first national hero, Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw honors the memory and sacrifices of the five national heroes.

The heroes played an important role in the independence struggle of the nation and also helped shape St Kitts and Nevis into the country that it is today.

  • Joseph Nathaniel France, The minister of Education and Trade Union Leader
  • First Premier of Nevis, Simeon Daniel
  • First Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Kennedy A. Simmonds
  • For the last four decades, the nation has been celebrating the national heroes, who have given their lives to the devoted service of the nation.

The Prime Minister was proud to have been a part of the celebration of the National Heroes Legacy in the presence of the Governor General of the country Marcella Liburd. The officials have shared that the ceremony for the National Heroes Day was attended by several members of the community.

The officials also had the opportunity to pay tribute to the only living national hero of the nation and first Prime Minister of independent St Kitts and Nevis, Kennedy Simmonds. The Prime Minister took to his social media account to share some glimpses from the event.

He highlighted that the ceremony was interrupted by the previous government, for what he described as “Petty Reasons”. He claimed that they did not let the previous government’s actions have lasting impact on the celebration.

The Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew and his team honoured the national heroes in the presence of the members of the community. In his social media post, Dr Drew said, “We will not allow petty politics to define our actions.”

The leadership of St Kitts and Nevis continues to recognize Sir Kennedy Simmonds.

He is the only living national hero of the nation and deserves to be recognized despite political differences. The official said that they must value and respect the significant role that he has played in the development of the nation for the last four decades.
