Botswana: The Tonota District Council has highlighted the contributions of the district’s elderly stakeholders, who have been working hard to uplift education. They are dedicated to providing primary education to students.
The group of Community builders has been invaluable to the district’s education sector. The group has been active in the Village of Natale.
The district administration of Tonota met the effective community leaders. The team are dedicated to uplifting the education of primary school going children.
The senior citizenry who are involved in the efforts are mostly Pensioners from a Team called the “Performance Improvement Team.”
The main focus of the group is to provide free tutoring and mentorship to standard seven students. The elderly people of the city are working with students of Natale Primary School at their respective homes.
According to one of the members, Lechani Mugibelo said this was an initiative by the former school head in 2014. It then collapsed after the death of the school head within years.
Afterwards, Mugibelo said it was in 2022 when the team was resuscitated. She prides herself on remarkable results due to the efforts of the project and the team of elders.
She recalled that in 2022 the passmark was 76% and 71% in 2023 whilst in 2021 the passmark was 61%. She said it is the result of the collective effort between parents, Performance Improvement Team as well as Teachers.
The team has been working with vulnerable students who may need some extra help in their educational support.
The people of the city also applauded the team of the “Performance Improvement Team”. Some social media users also saw family members in the team. One such user shared that I see my Uncle up there. Keep up the good work bakanyi kwedu
Meanwhile, another commenter shared that the team’s efforts are becoming successful as many students have been helped through the project.
