Nigeria: As Eket Christmas Village is set to officially flag off today, John Otu led Usung Inyang People’s Forum Exco members and stakeholders to pay a courtesy visit to Eket Division DPO of Nigeria police force, CSP Sunday Digha, yesterday in his office and pleaded with him for more security attention in Eket Christmas village.
In his opening speech, the President Usung Inyang People’s Forum and the former councillor of Eket Urban 2, John Otu, pour encomiums on Eket DPO, CSP Sunday Digha for restoring peace and turning Eket into a peaceful abode for people, where they can now live in peace, harmony and going about their businesses unhindered.
John Otu stated that the crime rate in Eket had gone down drastically in the course of over some years as the DPO had engaged both his personal and professional experiences in the management of his men and officers, especially in the area of surveillance and intelligence gathering.
He, however, urged the DPO not to rest on his oars but to strive harder to keep the flag flying in maintaining peace in Eket. Most importantly, this festival period.
“There is no way we can run this organisation successfully without coming to pay total loyalty to you. For you to say yes to this courtesy visit shows your level of acceptance of this organisation.
“My DPO, your office is not a new place for us, but for us to visit here today is a sign of reformation, peace and unity. We are all ready to work with you, sir”. He added.
In his response, CSP Sunday Digha thanked the leadership of the Usung Inyang People’s Forum for consistently assisting police to work better. Most importantly, during the #EndSars protest.
According to him, “last year Eket Christmas Festival was very peaceful and successful in terms of security aspect, but we need to step up our game as we expect massive turn-up this year.
He said, “I actually complained to the Eket Local Government Chairman, Rt. Hon. Akan Tommey in the past that we were not carrying along enough, but this year we’re expecting something different from him.”
He ended his speech by soliciting continuous support from members of the organisation in the area of intelligence gathering to assist the Division in continuing to win the war against crime in Eket.
Also in attendance, Obongiwaad Ememobong Tommy, the Plantation Secretariat Chairman; Okokon Oduok, the Vice President; Isong Isong, the former President; Akpan Udo; Utibe Utibe Ime Ebitu; Godwin Udoidua; Anietie Jonah; Ime Owen and among others.
