Zambia: Zambia is struggling with the outbreak of Cholera infection in the country. Zambia Police Service has announced a suspension of public processions during the outbreak. The health ministry of the country has been sharing regular updates on the outbreak situation.
As per the latest updates from the Ministry of Health, the country has recorded a cumulative of 6272 cases since the start of the outbreak. In the last 24 hours, the country has recorded 618 new cases.
Both the number of cumulative cases and the number of new cases on January 8 are worrying the administration about the healthcare situation in the country. The law enforcement agencies have instituted some precautionary measures.
One of these measures is the stop on public gatherings for the duration of the outbreak. The authorities have taken the step to protect the people of the country.
The Service is urging citizens to exercise extreme caution and responsibility by refraining from organizing such events until further notice.
In the same vein, the Zambia Police Service National Ball, which was scheduled to take place on 12th January 2024, has been postponed to a later date. The new date has not been revealed as of yet.
Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga says both decisions have been made with the interest of public health as a premise. Additionally, the officer talked about the need for collective responsibility in containing the spread of Cholera.
Hamoonga states that following a declaration of a Cholera outbreak in certain areas by the Ministry of Health, public gatherings, especially in the form of processions, pose a significant risk of speeding the spread of the disease.
He has appealed to the public to prioritize their well-being and that of their fellow citizens by avoiding large gatherings and complying with health guidelines. Many regions of the country have already started strengthening their precautionary measures.
The health ministry of the country is involved in every part of the process and has asaured the provincial and district level administration of their support in the fight against Cholera.
