Zambia: Zambian feature film produced by Cosmas Ng’andwe, Mwizukanji, has won the award for best indigenous language, Southern Africa. The film was nominated at the 11th prestigious 2025 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA’s).
The awards were hosted in Lagos, Nigeria May 10, 2025 with several films getting nominated from all over the world. The other Zambian productions were also nominated in various categories at this year’s AMVCAs.
The list of Zambian nominees included, Pastor Wants a Wife, Man of Gold as well as Kopala Queens. The National Association of Media Arts (NAMA) has congratulated the winning film dubbed ‘Mwizukanji’, noting that it is a win for all Zambians.
NAMA President, Morgan Mbulo, noted that the film’s achievement mirrors the global potential of Zambian filmmakers.
Mbulo also reaffirmed NAMA’s commitment to promoting, supporting and protecting the interests of the media industry in Zambia.
“Achievements like these reflect the advancing influence and global reach of our local content creators,” Mbulo said.
Mbulo also congratulated other Zambian filmmakers that were nominated in various film categories such as the Toyzya Botah, observing that such achievements are a pride of the nations.
In an exclusive interview with ZANIS, Mr Cosmas Ng’andwe, creator of the winning feature film, noted that the award is a testimony that the Zambian film industry is indeed advancing.
Further, Ng’andwe has since urged his fellow filmmakers to continue with the spirit of unity of purpose, noting that even with limited resources in the industry, local filmmakers are winning awards by believing in themselves.
“Let’s continue pushing, our country does not have a very strong industry that has a strong unity of purpose. We need to unite more, against all odds with no funding, we are winning awards so let’s continue pushing,” he said.
Ng’andwe, who observed that the victory is a huge win, predicted that greater things are yet to come as the crop of film makers in the industry is very resilient.
He has since called on the government to come on board in actualising a yearly film fund that will greatly assist local filmmakers and producers in the country.
The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards that are presented by Multi-Choice, celebrate excellence in television, film as well as content creation across Nollywood and in the African entertainment industry.
