Cape Town observed a dance competition, designed to spotlight the creativity and talent of Cape Town’s agile citizens to celebrate Festive Lights Switch-On (FLSO) under the theme ‘United in Hope’.
The competition opened on Oct 01, 2025 to amateur performers of any age in groups ranging from two to a maximum of 10 dancers per entry. The participants must be based in Cape Town or the greater metropole.
As per the sources, performances will be judged on 30% of creativity, 25% of technical skill, 25% of stage presence and connection to the 2025 Festive Lights Switch-On theme, 20% of United in Hope.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that Cape Town has an abundance of young talent.
The City of Cape Town will also organise the ‘Move With Melody’ competition, which is a great platform to celebrate and elevate the creativity.
It is an opportunity for the young performers to shine, to be recognised and to bring their artistry to one of the biggest stages in the city.
Notably, a panel of creatives will review the submissions by the entrants that will include award-winning dancers, teachers and choreographers Danny Jones and Jodie Jackson with entertainer Lunga Tshuka.
The independent panel of judges will score entries against the stipulated criteria, from which they will invite the top-10 finalists to compete, live at the V&A Waterfront amphitheatre on Saturday, Nov 15, 2025. Everyone is invited to come and cheer them on.
Finalists must make their own way to the Waterfront venue, where the final dance-off will decide the top three winners, as each of them will receive cash prizes. For 1st place its R10,000, for 2nd place its R5,000 and for 3rd place its R2,500.
Considering the added bonus, these top three placed acts will also perform on the main stage at the Festive Lights Switch-On on Nov 30 by performing in front of thousands on the Grand Parade.
