African Junior Championship hosted in Morocco

Botswana: The 2023 ITF/CAT African Junior Championship 14 years & under will be hosted in Mohammedia, Morocco from 11 - 15 September 2023. The tournament is organised by the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) in conjunction with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Morroco Tennis Federation. 

Botswana: The 2023 ITF/CAT African Junior Championship 14 years & under will be hosted in Mohammedia, Morocco from 11 – 15 September 2023. The tournament is organised by the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) in conjunction with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Morroco Tennis Federation. 

Eight players (4 boys and 4 girls) from Botswana qualified for the main draw based on their CAT Junior rankings. 

In the boy’s singles, Ntungamili Raguin reached the quarterfinals, where he will face 4th seed Ghali Komat of Morocco this morning. Ntungamili reached the quarterfinals following impressive results in the first round, where he won 6/3 6/2 against 6th seed Anas Ben Youssef (Tunisia). This was followed by a 6/3 2/6 6/4 hard-fought win against Mehdi Laabi (Morocco) in the second round.

Unfortunately, the rest of the boys’ team was eliminated in the first round.

Marcus Semane faced Algeria’s Yacine Meghari and lost 6/0 6/0. Martin Seetso lost out to Yassin Hamdy (Egypt) 6/2 6/3.

Tinashe Phatshwane went up against Nigeria’s Abdelmouhay Ghouli and lost 6/1 6/0. In the girl’s singles, Malak Macheng reached the second round, where she lost to 5th seed, Rined Saafi of Tunisia. Ditshegofatso Bapaletswe lost to 12th seed Sophia Adil (Morocco) in the first round.

Samantha Chivazve faced 10th seed Yasmine Douyeb (Morocco) in the first round and lost 6/0 6/0. Nelisiwa Tsima lost in the first round to Zimbabwe’s Tanaka Mhlanga 6/2 6/1.

While the rest of the team lost in the first round in both boy’s and girls’ doubles, the pair of Martin Seetso and Ntungamili Raguin reached the quarterfinals in the boy’s category. They won their round of 16 match against HAMDY Yassin Hamdy and Hassan Ibrahim Hassan Ramy (Egypt) 7/5 6/4.
