The City of Cape Town has announced top-10 finalists for Festive Lights Switch-On Comedy Showdown. The finalists will go head-to-head at the V&A Waterfront, for a shot at making it onstage at the Festive Lights Switch-On event on the Grand Parade on Sunday, Dec 01, 2024.
Reportedly, the top-10 comedy finalists will stand a chance to win generous cash prizes of R10,000 for the overall winner R5000 and R2000 for the second and third place winner respectively.
Everyone is welcome to join in the fun as the comedians such as Lunga Tshuka, Stuart Taylor and Angel Campey will be the judges and entertainers, who will come together with the 10 finalists.
These three bright lights will join an entertaining line-up of performers with the stage programme beginning from 4:00 p.m. at the Grand Parade on Sunday, Dec 01, 2024. The city officially lights up Summer and Adderley Street with the annual Switch-On of the Festive Lights around 8:45 p.m.
Festive Lights Switch-On is one of the most anticipated events of Cape Town that is attracting the thousands of residents and visitors. Theme for this year is ‘People of Hope’ that will celebrate the resilient and diverse communities of the city.
The event is completely family-focused. It is a free event that will be a night of joy, entertainment and community spirit. The night will feature performances by the performers such as Three Tons of Fun, Carletheia, Blackbyrd, Meneer Cee, Cheree and Wynand Strydom, Mafikizolo, Morda, Dr. Victor, Rasta Rebels and many more.
Finalists of the Festive Lights Switch-On Comedy Competition are Baydu Adams, Inkosi James, Ivan Andre, Marius Rossouw, Milton Gengaya, Mzwa Seme, Nathan Kalala, Prince Mbaya, Rafique Ismail and Rameez Cassiem.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that Cape Town is an example of rainbow nation of South-Africa.
In good and bad times, comedy connects people, and Cape Town shows off with some of the greatest comedians the country can offer. The theme promotes Capetonians to be people of hope.
Moreover, the comedy competition is a fantastic platform to bring all the people together with some comedians to shine bright.
Smith said, “We’re looking for fresh, dynamic humour that reflects the vibrant spirit of the city. I can’t wait to see what these finalists bring to the stage, both during the showdown and at the annual Festive Lights Switch-On itself.”
