Botswana: The government of Botswana has officially opened the 2024 Botswana Human Resource Development Skills Fair and Career Clinics. During the opening event, Minister of Education Dr Douglas Letsholathebe advocated for a mindset change in TVET and education.
The opening ceremony for the event was hosted at Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education (FCTVE).
The Minister of Education and Skill Development, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe made the call for mindset change during his remarks at the opening event. At the start of his remarks Minister douglas asked learners of Botswana to take up Technical and Vocational Education Training as an alternate career.
The TVET education can play an important role in the career growth of the youngsters. Through TVET, the youngsters can create opportunities in unconventional career paths. The Minister of education asserted that TVET can improve the lives of the youngsters positively.
The opening ceremony for the 2024 Botswana Human Resource Development Skills Fair and Career Clinics was held under the theme: “Mindset change for new opportunities in Careers and Skills Development”.
During the event, Minister of Education Dr Douglas Letsholathebe asserted that there is a need for change in mindset of youngster. To this end, Minister said that mindset change is most important when it comes to TVET education.
In his remarks at the opening ceremony, the Minister spoke in detail about what he meant when he said “Mindset Change”. He claimed that in terms of education, it includes:
- Fostering a culture of creativity
- Taking up critical thinking
- Instilling a love for lifelong learning
The Botswana Human Resource Development Skills Fair and Career Clinics was attended by a number of youngsters from across the country. The aim of the event was to provide them with guidance and knowledge on different careers.
In this regard, Minister Dr Douglas Letsholathebe urged the youngsters to inculcate a lifelong love for learning in themselves. He urged them to take up reading once more and start doing things with their own hands.
The Botswana Human Resource Development Skills Fair and Career Clinics is a three-day event held in two legs. Francistown was the first leg of the initiative and will conclude on March 15.
The second leg of the fair will be held in Gaborone at Ditshupo Hall from March 19 to 22, 2024.
