Edo: Percy Okojie appreciates Gov Obaseki for strides in education

Chief Percy Okojie recognized the Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki for his efforts to transform the education sector.

Edo State: The Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki received recognition for his efforts to transform the education sector. The appreciation came from President of the Association of Old Boys and Girls of Government Primary School, Benin, Chief Percy Okojie.

Chief Okojie and other members of the body commended him for championing education transformation programs. He was dedicated to ensuring pupils and students in the state have access to quality education.

Okojie made these remarks on Friday December 1, 2023, during a courtesy visit to the Governor. He was accompanying other members of the alumni body, at the Edo State Government House in Benin.

During his visit, Percy Okojie expressed satisfaction with the developmental strides of the Obaseki-led administration. He acknowledged the strides in transforming the educational sector of the state.

Further, the association president applauded Governor Obaseki’s administration for creating the enabling environment to drive creativity and innovations among Edo youths.

Okojie also noted that the alumni body was on the visit to discuss and explore opportunities for collaboration in the areas of public education. He also took the opportunity to share and present some projects and initiatives that they intend to undertake.

The projects are meant for the betterment of their alma mater and public education in the state, as well as other initiatives that align with the Governor’s vision for the state.

He also presented before the Governor, some of the challenges faced by his alma mater, asking the state government to intervene.

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki also delivered brief remarks at the courtesy call welcom. He congratulated members of the alumni body for being part of such a historic school.

Further, the governor acknowledged that the school is part of Edo cultural districts. The institution is earmarked to drive the cultural and historical records of the state to future generations and international communities.

Obaseki said: “First, I want to welcome and congratulate members of the old boys and girls of Government Primary School, Benin City. He recollected that this was the first school to be established in Edo South.

“This school was established, I believe, four years after the expedition of 1897. And so, it is quite a historic school.” Said the governor.

“This was the first school and anybody who was educated in Edo and the Benin premises had to go to the school. I believe this was the only government primary school and Edo College was the only government secondary school until the 60s or even the 70s.

The people of Edo state also joined Chief Percy Okojie in appreciating the Governor for the efforts that he has done. Social media users also acknowledged Governor Obaseki’s contribution to the betterment of Edo.

One user asserted, Obaseki has done well. Compare Edo as it is now and before the administration of Governor Obaseki. You will realise that the Governor has really transformed Edo into an enviable destination.
