Botswana: The Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture participated in the commemoration of the Sotho tribe. The tribe is settled in the Barolong Land- Tlhareseleele with the members of the community in attendance.
The celebration of the tribe and its culture was hosted over the course of the previous weekend. The Ministry claimed that the event was displaying the true definition of cultural unity between Batswana & Basotho.
The opening remarks for the commemoration was delivered by the Kgosi Francis Letshikhoana. The officials have shared several images from event on their social media. During his opening remarks, Kgosi Francis expressed his outmost appreciation to the Tswana tribe in Tlhareseleele for their warm welcome.
He further appreciated the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture for assisting him as Chief of Tlhareseleele. They have helped to carry out his duties of upkeep, welfare, unity, peace and socialization between the two tribes.
According to the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture injected a total amount of P55,000 as sponsorship for the tribe. The officials
Southern African Development Community (SADC), Legal Counsel, Nthabiseng Liphaphang was also present at the event. He emphasized the importance of such events towards shaping, teaching and preserving not only the Sotho culture but, African cultures at global level.
She applauded the Sotho tribe in Tlhareseleele for upholding and displaying their culture. They have protected their history and culture through language, attire, music and dance, arts, and food even in their present home, Botswana.
Liphaphang alluded that this should be a teaching and reminder to young ones of who they are, where they come from and where they are going as the future generation.
District Coordinator MYSC, Moeti Godisamang also shared her appreciation and delight. He encouraged Batswana at large to take heed of the digital space to expose more of our culture emphasizing its potential of inviting and educating more people about different cultures and their distinguished festivals.
Godisamang alluded that, this is one way of protecting and proliferating our culture both locally and internationally.
