Rivers State, Nigeria: Enemi Alabo George is attending a two-day refresher workshop on Legislative operations. He is accompanied by 26 other Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Alabo George is attending the event as the representative of Asari-Toru Local Government Area Constituency II
The event is being hosted at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies in Abuja.
The two-day refresher workshop was declared open by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. The aim of the initiative is to sharpen the legislative skills of the Members and management staff of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
One of the most important prerequisites of good governance is that the people’s representatives have the right tools at their disposal. Knowledge is an equally important part of decision making, which allows the leaders to work towards developing their people.
The Keynote address was delivered by Abbas. The Speaker of the House of Representatives was represented by the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Professor Julius Ihonvbere.
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, delivered the special remarks at the event. The workshop will serve as a refreshing, educational opportunity for the leaders of Rivers State. They can take the opportunity to socialize with the other leaders and discuss developmental strategies.
Meanwhile, Prof Abubakar Suleiman delivered the welcome address. In his speech, the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies appreciated the Rivers State House of Assembly. He recognized the team for being the first State Assembly to hold a workshop at the Institute.
At the same time, he promised that the institution will collaborate with the Rivers State House of Assembly for their better performance.
Amongst other dignitaries that attended the opening ceremony was the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Ogundu Chindah.
