South Africa, Kanane: Non compliant motorists feel the pinch of the law during Thuntsha Lerole’s law enforcement operation. Law enforcement agencies sealed all entry points of the Kanana location in Klerksdorp to stamp authority and ensure total compliance on the road.

During a joint law enforcement operation between Provincial, Municipal Traffic, South African Police Service (SAPS)and Department of Home Affairs (Customs), road users were engaged in safety awareness, and those found not complying with regulations were punished according to prescripts.

Following the hard work of dedicated law enforcement officers, 114 vehicles were stopped and checked, nine unlicensed drivers were fined, 13 expired and failed to display licence discs as well and five warrants of arrest were issued. Five foreign nationals, mostly from Lesotho, were also arrested for failing to produce documentation.

As part of the operation, road users further received road safety education through awareness campaigns.

This was part of the Thuntsha Lerole Accelerated Service Delivery Programme (ASDP) that took place in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality on Wednesday.

Thuntsha Lerole is currently being rolled out to local municipalities across the province, where various departments and state-owned entities, working together with the local and district municipalities, are responding to service delivery challenges in a coordinated and integrated approach.

The ASDP also forms part of the government’s District Development Model (DDM), which is an integration of development plans and programmes by all spheres of government to deliver services to communities.

The North West Government took this initiative as they are trying to ensure that no criminals are left in the North West Province.

These are the words of the Acting Premier of the North West Province, Nono Maloyi, during the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme Thuntsha Lerole Community Feedback Session yesterday at Gelukspan Multipurpose Centre in Mahikeng Local Municipality.

The Acting Premier, who was accompanied by Members of the Executive Council, Local Mayors, Traditional leaders and various government officials, said crime and corruption will not be tolerated in the province.

“People who have been committing crime and corruption will be arrested and spend time in jail. We are sick and tired of just talking about crime and corruption and doing nothing about it. As you have already seen, we are closely working with various law enforcement agencies to deal decisively with criminality in our province,” he said.

The Acting Premier and the Executive Council spent the whole day leading service delivery initiatives at various communities across Mahikeng Local Municipality through the Thuntsha Lerole Programme, which will be taken to Kgetleng Rivier Local Municipality next week.
