The team led by PM Skerrit has making stringent efforts to constantly develop and upgrade the nation with ambitious projects, such as the international airport. On the other hand, the opposition political party, United Workers party has been working to counteract these efforts.
UWP, under the leadership of United Workers Party has announced in their radio appearances that they are against the construction of the International Airport. They added gat they would do everything in their power to halt the significant development.
They have alleged that they would even go as far as the tsking the development to court. However, the basis on which the United Workers Party is making these claims seems to have no merit.
The political party seems to have little strong basis or proofs to back their demad of halting one of the most prestigious and ambitious project of the nation. Experts suggest that the international airport project is an important part of the country’s development mandate.
The project is expected to provide employment opportunities to many locals of dominica. Moreover, the inclusion of direct international flights to the airlift capacity of the nation will transform their tourism sector.
In line with the above facts, the construction of the airport can bring transformative development to the small island nation. However, the actions and announcements of the United Workers Party make it clear that they are vehemently against the idea of development.
The development of the airport is not the only proect under fire from the negative sentiments from the opposition. It is apparent that they do not want to see Dominica grow under any circumstances.
Allegedly, the former leader of the United Workers Party, Lennox Linton has been influencing international media to spread negativity against the nation. Linton want to embarrass the nation and portray a negative image of Dominica on the international stage.
Lennox Linton’s alleged involvement in the OCCRP report is a direct proof of the fact. Meanwhile, this former leader of the United Workers Party has had involvement in many corruption cases.
To add to this, the United Workers Party is making it their mission to promote lethargy and unproductiveness among the people. In March 2024, they urged their followers to participate in “Do nothing campaign,” promoting a sense of laziness and counter productive sentiment among the people.
